As the payment industry develops around the world and MasterCard continues its focus on being at the Heart of Commerce and on the edge of innovation, the importance of having a coherent and holistic strategy for markets outside the US becomes crucial. This London based position reports directly to the Senior Business Leader Strategy and Strategic Partnerships. This role is instrumental in helping develop and articulate business strategies to further Mastercard’s position in key markets around the world and in fostering the cross functional coordination to enable its successful execution across the company. This position requires a big picture thinker able to fully connect with the payment industry environment and also see lateral opportunities across geographies and industries. The candidate should be able to understand and synthesize market and industry realities, identify competitive trends, partnership opportunities navigate MA’s organization to gather key pieces of information and generate cross-functional alignment to accelerate operational execution and promote potential strategic alliances, due diligence exercises and M&A.

Key accountabilities of the role

•Strategy Development: To support the development, design, and overall delivery of the country-level strategies for IMK countries in collaboration with regional market development, and country and divisional management teams
•Business Case Building: Ability to structure, and articulate end-to-end analysis of key initiatives in priority geographies and manage/ motivate the team of contributors required to participate in the analysis. Examples of projects to tackle include: New Consumers, Push Payments, Merchant Strategies, etc.
•Cross Functional Coordination: Communicate with different areas of the organization to validate and coordinate priorities using business strategy and market opportunity integrators. Knowledge depth required to act as an advocate for the regions and countries at a corporate-level
•Project Management: Lead cross-regional and cross-functional projects with no direct reporting lines
•Improving strategic planning and decision making across IMK. Work in coordination with Finance and Marketing
•Strategic Partnerships: Help support sourcing, monitoring and execution of strategic partnerships and equity investment opportunities. Understand the Company’s global and local strategic gaps and continuously monitor the marketplace for potential solutions
•Lead the sourcing of M&A opportunities across IMK markets, in collaboration with GP&S Strategy and Investments team. This work will extend to the analysis of target opportunities, strategic fit, industry analysis, and preliminary valuation
•Close coordination with Corporate Development team to assist with M&A execution

Profile and key requirements

•Relevant industry knowledge and appetite/curiosity for exploration and constant update on market and industry trends and their impact on MA’s business model
•Demonstrated success in strategic management and/or M&A. Consulting/payments/investment banking industries preferred. Bachelor’s degree required, MBA or postgraduate preferred
•Previous experience in a global/international role preferred – strong multi-cultural sensibility required
•Strong relationship management and negotiation skills – Ability to influence across the MA organization
•Strong Process Management skills – able to understand and coordinate complex organizational processes and reach out and consolidate input from multiple stakeholders
•Highly motivated / Strong work ethic – Proven commitment to adapt and champion time sensitive/mission critical processes operating in a global and matrix-type organization
•Fast learner and able to link diverse sources of information to our business including ability to handle confidential information and materials with appropriate discretion
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate findings in a compelling manner to internal and external audiences which include senior level executives
•Ability to link data analysis with business implications Strong PowerPoint/Excel skills. Previous experience in developing Board level materials.
•Financial Modeling skills are required. Experience in M&A and or equity analysis is a strong plus.
•Self-motivated – Ability to deliver within agreed deadlines – A creative/ proactive thinker with proven organizational & time management skills
•Sound judgment to act autonomously and indentify emerging issues and escalate them as required
•Ability to travel internationally approximately 15%-20% of the time
•Proficiency in Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, French or Spanish is a plus
